Microblading FAQ

WHAT IS MICROBLADING?

Microblading is a semipermanent technique for enhancing the appearance of the eyebrows, in which pigment is scratched into the skin in fine, short strokes resembling hair, using a hand tool with a blade formed of tiny needles. The pigment is inserted into the dermal layer of the skin, it does not go as deep as with the traditional tattoo and that is the reason it starts fading after some time.  Microblading requires a 2nd session to be scheduled 30-45 days after initial session.  Pricing includes both sessions.

Should a 3rd session be needed to achieve the client’s ultimate desired brow, a microblading build up session is offered and can be done 30-45 days after 2nd session has healed.

Microshading is great for anyone looking to achieve an ombre effect with the tail to mid eyebrows being darker and slowly transition to lighter as it moves towards the front, creating a super natural look of filled-in brows without making them look tattooed. This is also ideal for clients with asymmetrical eyebrows, scars, and gaps.  It helps to achieve an evenness in the overall depth of color and dimension.

IS IT SAFE?

Strict hygiene protocols are a priority and all needles and supplies are disposable.

Station and room are sanitized before and after each client to ensure sterilization of work area.

AMA Top quality organic pigments are made with the highest safety, free of toxic and mutagenic substances, free of iron oxides, preservatives and acrylic. It is a medical grade pigment & helps to accelerate the healing process of wounds.

If you have any health conditions or are allergic to lidocaine, prilocaine, benzocaine, tetracaine or epinephrine, please inform your artist before the treatment.

WHO IS NOT A CANDIDATE FOR MICROBLADING?

Very oily skin as it tends to have less retention due to the increased production of sebum of the sebaceous glands. Their results will appear softer in appearance and may require additional procedures or frequent touch up. Every 6 month touch up is recommended.

Seborrheic Dermatitis (active eczema or psoriasis ) can provoke bleeding that is not desirable during the healing period and can appear as inflammation, causing the color to vanish within several weeks.

Eyebrow Keratosis - It is possible to perform procedure on this skin, though difficult.  Multiple procedures may be necessary to implant pigment at a proper depth.

Thyroid Medication- Requires frequent touch ups. Their color fades more quickly and can potentially heal more cool toned.

Blood Thinning Medications cause bleeding during the procedure, inhibiting the ability to implant pigment. Blood thinners include Aspirin, Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen, & fish oil and and should not be taken on the day of service.

Cholesterol and blood pressure medications work against the blood platelets sticking together. Their molecules are bigger than tattoo pigment molecules and can wash some of them away. Therefore, clients on these medications may experience some color loss and require additional touch ups.

Diabetes - Clients who are insulin dependent often do not heal as well and have heightened risk for infection.  This service is typically not recommended for someone with Diabetes, however a doctor’s note would be required should a client wish to proceed.  Please be advised that even with a doctor’s note, the artist is still permissible to reject the appointment.

Chemotherapy - Clients on chemotherapy can have microblading done prior to or upon completion of their chemotherapy treatments, NOT during.  Your doctor's written permission will be required.

Botox & injectable - If the client has had either a neurotoxin or filler injectable, they should wait at least 1 month before having any cosmetic treatment done.  Any cosmetic procedure is fine before having botox & injectables.

Accutane thins the skin, and it is not recommended for microblading.  Client must be off Accutane for one year and provide a doctors note to confirm last treatment.

Pregnant or Nursing - It is forbidden to provide cosmetic procedures.

Keloids - Clients who form keloid scars are not a candidate for Microblading.

DO I NEED TO HAVE A CONSULTATION BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT?

You are not obligated to have a consultation, however, if you have a lot of questions you can book a free consultation. It’s understandable for the procedure come off as daunting so it’s important that clients feel comfortable with their decision.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT THE DAY OF THE PROCEDURE?

Microblading/Combo Brows can be 2.5-3.5 hours long, so it is advised to not come on an empty stomach. The first part includes prepping the brows to be mapped and measured. The artist will create a design by reshaping your existing brow to help you envision your desired end result. Only once you are 100% satisfied, we will proceed. From there we will begin to numb the area and choose the perfect pigment shade. Once brows are numbed, the service will begin. Aftercare routines will be provided after the treatment which you need to follow religiously for the best results. In the end, we will schedule your perfecting session which is obligatory.

IS IT PAINFUL?

Numbing ream is applied to help ease the procedure. Most clients say the level of discomfort is similar to a light scratching sensation or pressure.  Some feel nothing at all. For more sensitive clients, an instant numbing solution can be applied throughout the procedure, if necessary.

WHAT WILL I LOOK LIKE AFTER THE PROCEDURE?

Your semi-permanent tattoo will look very dark and sharp at first.  This is because the pigment is still sitting on top of your skin and has not settled in completely.  Some swelling might occur, and goes away within 24 hours. The true color will be seen after the healing process is over, in about 10 days. During this time, you might experience some flakiness, and loss of pigment. The perfecting session is to touch up any areas that didn’t hold pigment well, to correct the shape, and complete the service.

WHEN CAN I RETURN TO WORK?

You can continue with your normal activities immediately after the treatment with some exceptions.  The microblading will be dark and a little bit swollen and you will have to be careful not to sweat or get it wet. Performing tasks related to heavy cleaning such as a garage or basement where there is a lot of airborne debris is not recommended.

WHAT ACTIVITIES SHOULD I AVOID?

You should avoid any activity that includes sweating, such as working out, saunas, intense sports, and spicy foods.  No sitting in the sun or tanning prior to and after your appointment.  No swimming as water can damage your freshly done microblading.  No picking, peeling, or scratching the area.  No laser, peels, chemical treatments, Retin A or Glycolic Acids.  No driving in open air vehicles such as convertibles, boats, bicycles, or motorcycles.  Smoking and/or excessive drinking may lead to slow healing of wounds.

WHAT IS THE AFTER CARE PROCESS AND WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT?

Proper aftercare is paramount to the success of microblading. Should after care not be followed, it could cause discoloration of the pigment, or no retention at all.  ABOUT 70% of the color retention is based on how well you take care of your eyebrows after the procedure. The healing process takes approximately 10-14 days, and about 1 month for the color to fully set in.

Please FOLLOW these instructions as provided:

Day One - Let it heal dry as much as possible. At the end of day one, clean your eyebrows with clean water, followed by post care healing ointment. Aquaphor is recommended.  Pat dry with a lint free pad or towel and apply a THIN layer with a disposable lip wand, and no aggressive movement or manipulation of the skin. Always wash your hands with a disinfectant soap before washing your eyebrows and applying the post care ointment.

Day Two - Ten:

Wash your brows with lukewarm water and a mild fragrance free soap. Cetaphil is recommended.  Make a lather in your hands and gently wash your brows, pat dry with a lint free pad or towel and reapply a thin layer of Aquaphor using a disposable lip wand, and no aggressive movement or manipulation of the skin.  Continue this for the next 9 days 2x a day.

CAN I WEAR MAKEUP AFTER THE PROCEDURE?

It is advised to avoid wearing makeup on the treated area for at least two weeks.

After 48 hours you can wear makeup on the other parts of your face, but make sure it does not go near the treated area, as you can risk getting an infection.

HOW DO I KNOW WHEN I NEED A TOUCH UP?

Aside from the perfecting session, which is mandatory, all other touch ups will prolong the life expectancy of your microbladed brows. You should book an appointment when the color starts to fade, but before it fades completely. The frequency of touch ups will depend on the speed of fading, which is determined by your skin type, lifestyle and over all care for your new brows.  Applying an SPF 50-100 daily on your eyebrows will help them to last longer.

CAN YOU FIX SOMEONE ELSE’S WORK OR PROVIDE A COVER UP?

We are extremely selective when working over existing microblading and other artists' work. If you have had your eyebrows previously microbladed, please book a consultation, or email us clear photos of your brows BEFORE booking an appointment (yolitheartist@yahoo.com). In addition to the photos in your email, please include the date of your last brow session and how many sessions you have received.

WHAT IF I DONT LIKE IT?

As with all cosmetic procedures, individuals should not make their choices lightly. Every effort will be made to achieve an even appearance, but please realize our faces are never perfectly symmetrical and we will do our best to make them as symmetrical as possible while considering the level of up keep.  Microbladed brows will eventually fade away if no additional touch ups are done.
